The Pleasures of Winter by Evie Hunter

Read: 15 December 2012
Why: Selected from iBooks chart

Rating: 4 stars

Brief synopsis: Journalist Abbie Marshall needs to escape Honduras quickly after attracting the wrong attention on her assignment. The only flight out is Hollywood A-lister, Jack Winter’s private jet and he owes them an interview. When the pilot suffers a heart attack, Jack manages to land the plane in the rainforest. Whilst they search for civilisation, Abbie’s feelings towards Jack begin to change as he shows there’s more to the Hollywood star than his looks. When they return to their own lives, can either of them forget what happened in the rainforest?

What I thought: I can’t believe I’m saying this having read the Fifty Shades trilogy but this story is a little too far-fetched! A Hollywood actor crash lands a plane in the rainforest and knows how to survive?! Aside from that, it’s a pretty good story.

Whilst definitely a smut book, I didn’t feel the sex was the main focus of the book there’s plenty of well-written story to read around it. The sex scenes are not as detailed as Fifty Shades/Bared To You – I think that is because they are mostly written from his point of view but on the plus side it does prevent the sex becoming repetitive. The dom/sub element of the story was mostly around his need to protect her and keep her safe and the sexual activities were quite mild in comparison to other books.
